ICAR-CIWA organized a Workshop on Methodologies for Gender Responsive Research in Agriculture and Extension

The ICAR-Central Institute for Women in Agriculture (ICAR-CIWA), Bhubaneswar, organized a workshop on “Methodologies for Gender Responsive Research in Agriculture and Extension” on 25th September 2025. The workshop aimed to sensitize and equip scientists with appropriate tools and approaches to effectively integrate gender perspectives in agricultural research and extension programs. Dr. Mridula Devi, Director, ICAR-CIWA, emphasized the significance of gender-responsive research in achieving inclusive agricultural growth. She highlighted the institute’s commitment to strengthening capacities of scientists in integrating gender perspectives, ensuring equitable benefits, and fostering sustainable livelihoods through innovative, participatory, and evidence-based research and extension methodologies. Dr. Arun Kumar Panda, HOD (GF&CS) made a brief presentation on “Indicators for Gender Responsive Research in Agriculture” during the workshop. He highlighted the relevance of gender-sensitive indicators in assessing access, participation, decision-making, and benefits in agricultural interventions. Dr. Sudha Narayanan, Former RAC Member, ICAR-CIWA and Senior Research Fellow, International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), CGIAR, New Delhi, delivered the lecture on "Methodologies for Gender Responsive Research in Agriculture and Extension". In her presentation, she highlighted the importance of gender-disaggregated data, participatory methodologies, and inclusive indicators to ensure that agricultural innovations benefit both men and women farmers equitably. She emphasized linking gender-responsive research with policy, institutional mechanisms, and grassroots realities to strengthen the impact of agricultural development programs. The lecture was followed by an interactive discussion, where CIWA scientists deliberated on integrating gender-responsive methodologies into their ongoing and upcoming research projects. The session provided a valuable platform for knowledge sharing and collaborative reflection. The workshop ended with vote of Thanks by Dr. S. K. Saranagi, HOD (ATW).
