ICAR-CIWA, Bhubaneswar organized the third National seminar on ‘Educating climate change action, agro-advisory services and sustainability’ for empowering women farmers at Khairput of Malkangiri district of Odisha on 28th Dec 2023 in collaboration with Mukti Social Service Organization, Puri, Odisha. The Seminar was funded by Ministry of Earth Science, GoI. There were speakers from ICAR-CIWA; Dept. of Women and Child Development, Govt. of Odisha; Dept. of Education, Govt. of Odisha, Odisha Livelihood Mission and Mukti Social Service Organization, Puri. All the speakers highlighted on the topic climate change and agriculture. Main focus was on climate change impacts on agriculture specially impact of shift of season, increased temperature, change in precipitation on agriculture, soil, water etc. and women friendly technologies/ approaches to mitigate the same. Special session was kept on discussion among the participants and speakers on the issues related to climate change, agriculture and women. Officials from Block Agriculture Office, Block Office, three numbers of Sarpanch from nearby villages and a total of 161 farmers (151 farm women and 10 men) participated in the seminar. From ICAR-CIWA, Dr. Ananta Sarkar and Mr. Sanjay Kumar Behera coordinated the programme.
