Swachhata Pakhwada scheduled on 16-31 December 2023 was inaugurated by Dr Mridula Devi, Director, ICAR-CIWA with highlighting the importance of cleanliness, health and well-being in daily life, working place and place of habitat. Dr Biswanath Sahoo, Pr. Scientist & Nodal, Swachha Bharat Mission detailed the objectives of the programme. Various activities like tree plantation programme, stock taking on digitization of office records/e-office implementation, cleaning of old office records, corridors and premises, collection of agro-waste from residential quarters, farm premises, canteen kitchen, goat-poultry farm, recycling of waste water in households were undertaken in the institute and residential campus followed by segregation of biodegradable and non degradable waste. Agro waste was subjected to vermi composting through demonstration in vermi pit and NADEP pit. Awareness on cleanliness and sanitation drive at village Jagulaipadar, Kanas, Puri under MGMG programme was created showing the safe ways of disposing biodegradable and non-biodegradable wastes especially single use plastic, composting of kitchen and home waste materials and cost effective technologies for ecologically safe and sustainable sanitation etc. A drawing competition was organized at Chitra and Sagada village of Nimapada block among school students. The local public places Tarini haat, Bharatpur and community waste disposal sites of municipal corporation was also visited and various steps of waste disposal and awareness on conversion of waste to wealth was developed. As a part of Swachhata programme, ICAR-CIWA also organised 'Kisan Diwas' on 23 December at village Alanda village, Nimapada, Puri in which about 85 farm women were sensitized for importance of Swachhata on community health. During the Swachhata Pakhwada, 400 participants actively participated during swachhata programme. Dr S.K.Bhanja, Station Incharge, DPR, (RS), Bhubaneswar and chief guest in the valedictory function and appreciated the activities of institute and concluded the programme on 31st Dec 2023 with tree plantation work.
