ICAR-CIWA organised Skill-based capacity building programme on Improved Goat Farming and POSHAN Abhiyan through Nutri Smart Village programme

A Skill-based capacity building programme on the development of women entrepreneurship in Livestock and fisheries sector for promoting gender equity and strengthening livelihood and POSHAN Abhiyan through Nutri Smart Village programme was organized at Sribantapur, Jagatsinghpur on 15th March 2023. At the outset Dr Biswanath Sahoo, Pr. Scientist welcomed the participants from nearby villages and briefed the objectivities and activities of of the programme. Dr Lipi Das, Pr. Scientist imparted skill based capacity building on POSHAN Abhiyan to develop Nutri Smart Village programme. She emphasized the role of women farmers in developing homestead nutri garden, importance of nutrition for farm women for maintaining a healthy life and the responsibilities of women SHGs in achieving the family community nutrition. Dr Sahoo also detailed the process of establishment of women entrepreneurship through dairy, goatery and poultry and various ongoing schemes in Animal husbandry sector. Dr Suvendu Kumar Sethi, Block veterinary officer, Naugaon addressed the participants on various diseases, preventive and ameliorative measures to be undertaken in livestock for the benefit of the farming community. The farmers were advised to ensure vaccination of livestock against viral diseases. At the end, animal health camp was organised in which medicines were distributed given to about 200 goats, 20 cows and calves for worm infestation, ticks and mites infestation, low milk yield, wounds, digestive disorder and infertility problem etc. The process of vermicomposting was demonstrated by Sh. Sanjay Kumar Behera, Sr. Technical Assistant. Eighty six participants actively participated in the programme. Small tools under SCSP programme were also distributed to SC beneficiaries. The programme was concluded by Sh. K.C. Swain, Technical officer, OMFED.
