Training Programme on “Scientific Management Practices in Family Poultry Farming for Higher Income and Nutrition" and Distribution of Inputs to Women SC Farmers at Mallick Sahi, GOP, Odisha

A Training programme on "Scientific Management Practices in Family Poultry Farming for Higher Income and Nutrition" was organized by ICAR-Central Institute for Women in Agriculture, Bhubaneswar on 11.01.2023 at Mallick Sahi village of GOP block, Puri district of Odisha under SCSP programme. Dr. Arun Kumar Panda, Principal Scientist, highlighted the importance of family poultry farming and informed that poultry production in rural/backyard areas is one promising strategy to ensure food security, enhance income and promote women’s empowerment at a relatively low investment. He discussed about various aspects of poultry management practices such as brooding, proper housing, supplementary feeding, preventive health measures and advised the farmers to follow proper practices to make family poultry production a successful enterprise. During the training programme, various poultry equipments and their uses were demonstrated to the farm women. About fifty farm women were participated in the programme. At the end of the programme, 20 chicks, 5kg feed, one feeder and one waterer were distributed to each 30 selected SC farm women beneficiaries under the SCSP Programme. The programme was coordinated by Dr. A. K. Panda, Principal Scientist, Er. Pragati Rout, Senior Technical Assistant and Mrs. Tapaswini Sahoo, Senior Technical Assistant of the institute.
