Capacity Building Programme on Women Agripreneurship through Livestock and Fisheries Technologies

A capacity building programme on women agripreneurship through livestock and fisheries technologies was organized on 27 December 2022 at ICAR-Central Institute for Women in Agriculture under the project “Development of women entrepreneurship in livestock and fisheries sector for promoting gender equity and strengthening livelihood”. The programme was aimed to make the rural women aware of the entrepreneurial opportunities existing in livestock and fisheries sector. Twenty five rural women from Kanamana Village, Astaranga, Puri and Sorona Village, Chilika, Khordha participated in the programme. Dr. Mridula Devi, Director, ICAR-CIWA, in her address stressed upon the importance of value addition of agricultural produce in doubling the farmer’s income. She also highlighted the need for creating a customer base for sustainable marketability of value added products. The potential of small scale poultry production, goat farming and value addition of fish as entrepreneurial options for improving income, nutrition and livelihood of farm families was discussed during the programme. The importance of women collectives like FPO’s in bringing about sustainability of women owned enterprises was stressed upon. A demonstration on preparation of value added fish products was also organized wherein in the women earned hands on experience on preparation and packaging of the products. An exposure visit of the participants to the Poultry Unit and Goat farming unit of ICAR-CIWA was also organized. The programme was co-ordinated by Dr Tanuja S, Senior Scientist, Dr. A.K.Panda, Principal Scientist, Dr Lipi Das, Principal Scientist and Dr B. Sahoo, Principal Scientist.
