Custom Hiring Centre with oil extraction plant established at lokapal, kanas, puri for sustainable livelihood of farm women

For sustainable livelihood of farm women of Scheduled Caste community, a Custom Hiring Centre was inaugurated on 5th August, 2022 at Lokapal village in Kanas block of Puri district. On this occasion, a training-cum-demonstration program was also organized. During the programme, the Director, ICAR-CIWA Dr. Anil Kumar encouraged women farmers to adopt new technologies in agriculture and avail the benefits of several programs and schemes launched by the Government. He also highlighted the importance of easy access by the villagers and stressed upon the significance of Oil Extraction Machine in development of women entrepreneurship with provision of e-market facility. In the Custom Hiring Centre, an oil extraction machine was installed and a set of agri-tools/ equipments (necessary accessories for oil extraction, weighing machine, sprayer, pump, seed treatment drum, etc.) funded by SCSP component of ICAR were handed over to the team of WSHG members who were identified to operate the Centre. As groundnut is widely cultivated in Kanas block and there is very few oil ectraction plants nearby, this facility will provide an opportunity for farm women for value addition and marketing of produce. Further, efforts will be made to handhold this group towards digital marketing of this product. The NGO-VJSS is actively supporting in day-to-day function of the Custom Hiring Centre. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Ananta Sarkar and Dr. Sabita Mishra in the presence of Mr. Prabhat K. Nayak, F&AO, ICAR-CIWA with the technical assistance of Dr. D. N. Sarangi, Sh. B. C. Behera and Er. P. K. Rout. About 120 farm women from Lokapal, Haladiapada, Chhotijodi and Dholapatna villages participated in the programme.
