ICAR-CIWA, Bhubaneswar Celebrates "Mahila Kisan Diwas-2021" under “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”at Majhihara village, Balipatna, Khordha

ICAR-CIWA celebrated "Mahila Kisan Diwas" on 15th October, 2021 in collaboration with Radio Kisan, Balipatna, Khordha. The theme of the programme was "Equity and Empowerment". The programme was attended by 120 farm women of villages Majhihara, Guapur, Italanga and Athantara villages in Odisha. On this occasion, Shri P. K. Datta, Chairman, Radio Kisan, Balipatna, Khordha was the Chief Guest. He highlighted the important roles played by the women in crop production, house hold chores and enlisted economical activities for the betterment of the livelihood of farm women. Dr. Ananta Sarkar briefed about the importance of “Mahila Kisan Diwas” and emphasized on achieving gender equity for attaining empowerment of women in agriculture, thus ensuring sustainability in the agricultural production system to meet the future needs of the country.
Two progressive farm women Smt. Jhili Bhoi and Smt. Santilata Chinera of Majhihara and Italanga village graced the occasion as Guests of Honours and shared their experience on successful farming technologies and need of different entrepreneurial activities. Dr. D. N. Sarangi and Mr. B. C. Behera organized the training on homestead nutrition garden & mushroom cultivation, back yard poultry, vegetable cultivation, vermin-composting, organic manure preparation for the Gosthis of their economic empowerment. The celebration concluded with distribution of 100 numbers of winter season vegetable seed kit to the farm women. The programme was coordinated by Dr. Ananta Sarkar, (Nodal Officer), Dr. D. N.
