ICAR-CIWA, Bhubaneswar Celebrates "World Food Day"

ICAR-CIWA celebrated "World Food Day" on 16th October, 2019 in collaboration with IPE Global Ltd. The theme of the programme was 'Our Actions are Our Future - Healthy Diets for a #Zerohunger World'. Director of the Institute, Dr. S. K. Srivastava, graced the programme as Chief Guest. He highlighted the crucial role of farmwomen in maintaining family food and nutrition security. He emphasized that by empowering women in agriculture and improving their access to inputs, technologies and services can bring phenomenal changes in the present agricultural production scenario of the country specifically in establishing value chains and doubling farmers income. As Guest of Honour, Shri. Nabaghan Ojha, State Team Leader, IPE Global Ltd., graced the occasion and highlighted the activities of the organization towards achieving the SDGs related to no poverty, zero hunger and climate change. On the occasion of World Food Day, a farmer-scientist interface was organized where in subject matter experts from ICAR-CIWA interacted with farmwomen on different women friendly technologies viz. mushroom cultivation, backyard poultry, dairy farming, goat rearing, vegetable cultivation, seed production, aquaculture etc. and its potential in doubling the farmers income and thereby reducing hunger. The experts also answered the queries of farmwomen. About 10 progressive women farmers from Kendujhar district and 30 farmers (men and women) from Bhubaneswar, Khordha district of Odisha, staff members of partner institution and staff members of the Institute participated in the programme. The group of progressive women farmers from Kundujhar shared their experience on how they have coped up with climate change and addressed hunger during last one decade. Dr. Sabita Mishra, Principal Scientist welcomed the delegates and the programme was coordinated by Dr. Ananta Sarkar, Senior Scientist.
