Successful Completion of three months internship training at ICAR-CIWA

A three months Internship programme was imparted for 11 students of B Tech. Agriculture Engineering from Centurion University of Technology and Management Paralakhemundi, Ganjam, Odisha in Fish Processing Technology (5 students) and Farm Machinery and Power (6 students), from 1st July to 30th September, 2019.
In fish processing the students were given hands on training on preparation of value added products from fish. They were also trained on the proximate and quality analysis of fish dried using solar rack dryer, hot air oven and direct sun drying. The various biochemical techniques used were estimation of moisture, protein, fat and ash content, TVBN, Peroxide Value, Free Fatty acid, Salt content, rehydration capacity etc. Designing and development of a vegetable cum fish cutter and motorised vegetable cum fish descaling/peeling device was done by the students. The students who completed internship in Fish processing Technology were guided by Dr. Tanuja S, Scientist (Fish Processing Technology).
The students for the training in farm machinery and power were given theory and practical in the field of ergonomics. They were introduced to role of woman in agriculture, agricultural statistics, occupational health hazard, design methodology of agricultural machinery, postural analysis techniques, human energy consumption, anthropometry etc. Two projects titled "Design and Development of Gender Friendly Walking Type Sprayer" and "Refinement of CIAE Solar Cabinet Dryer" were designed and completed by the students. They applied the ergonomics and operational principles to evaluate the developed machinery. The students also benefitted by the hands on use of advanced ergonomics instrumentation and workshop machinery available at ICAR-CIWA. The students who completed internship in Farm Machinery and Power were guided by the team of, Er. Chaitrali S. Mhatre, Scientist (FMP) and Er. Pragati K. Rout, Technical Assistant, (FMP).
The students also had interaction session with Dr. K. N. Agarwal, PC, AICRP on ESA. He encouraged them to pursue further studies and apply the knowledge gained by them in the training for designing better machinery and products. The students were also exposed to the workings of other organizations like OUAT and OFMRDC by having exposure visits to them. The training concluded with certificate distribution by the Director ICAR-CIWA, Dr. S. K. Srivastava, to the students on 30th September 2019.
