Campaign on Swachhata Hi Sewa programme during 11.09.19 to 02.10.2019

   As part of the Swachhta campaign, a range of events were organized during Swachhata Hi Sewa celebrations during 11.09.2019 to 02.10.2019. Awareness programme on cleanliness drive especially phasing out of single use plastic by promoting sustainable alternatives and proper disposal of plastic waste was organized. The cleanliness campaign was carried out in different parts of the institute campus, residential areas, inside and outside as well as surroundings of office buildings involving all the regular and contractual staffs. Awareness was also made to replace single use plastic polythenes, PET bottles, cups, folders, artificial flowers, straws, cups, small bottles etc. Besides the programme in the institute, a Swachhata Hi Sewa programme was organized in village Bhodala, Cuttack; Nuasahi, Puri and Kharibil, Niali, Cuttack on 12.09.19 ;28.09.19 and 01.10.2019, respectively. About 465 people consisting of farm women, farmers, students, youth actively participated in the programme. The surroundings of office buildings, residential areas, experimental plots, orchards in institute and milk cooperative society, poultry farm, dairy farm, horticultural garden and approach roads of different villages were cleaned removing plastic items followed by dumping in a pit. This awareness programme was also propagated in adopted villages under MGMG, ongoing projects and AICRP, Home science centres across the country. The people were advised to shun the single use of plastic bags, pet bottles, cups to keep environment free of pollution during the 22 days programme. Mass campaigns on Swachhata Hi Sewa programme were also carried out in the villages to develop awareness among the people at grass root level.
The 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi is commemorated in a broad scale by organizing Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Swacchata Hi Sewa programme) on 02.10.2019. Dr S.K.Srivastava, Director, ICAR-CIWA addressed the participants.The pledge taking on Swachhata Hi Sewa was also made by him followed by Human chain formation and plantation of tree. On-campus cleanliness drives was carried out inside campus. The garbage items consisting of polythene, cups, tarpaulin sheet etc. were collected and dropped in the dustbin. Mass cleaning campaign at Bharatpur square, Bhubaneswar was made to create awareness on phasing out single use plastic items among the common people. The programme was coordinated by Dr Biswanath Sahoo, Pr. Scientist and Nodal officer and Shri. Jairam Biswal, Administrative Officer. During the programme, a total of 465 participants including Scientific, Technical and Administrative staff along with farmers and students were actively involved to make the programme a grant success.
