ICAR-CIWA participated in ICAR Zonal Sports (Eastern Zone) Tournament-2017

ICAR Zonal Sports (Eastern Zone) Tournament-2017 was held during 13th -16th November, 2017 at Pataliputra Sports Complex, Pataliputra, Bihar, which was organized by ICAR-Research Complex for Eastern Zone, Patna, Bihar. 430 sports contingents from 16 Institutes of ICAR (Eastern Zone) participated in the sports meet. Dr. R. C. Srivastava, Hon'able Vice Chancellor of Dr. Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University Pusa, Samastipur, Bihar was the Chief Guest of the Inaugural session. In his inaugural speech, he emphasized though the infectious diseases eradicated through modern medical technologies, but due to faulty eating habit, work stress and less physical effort, the un-communicable diseases like hypertension, diabetes, cardio-vascular diseases are emerged throughout the World. The sports, meditation, yoga are the means to combat the emerging life style diseases.
From ICAR-Central Institute from Women in Agriculture, Bhubaneswar 16 sports contingents participated in the ICAR Zonal Sports (Eastern Zone) Tournament-2017. Dr. Jyoti Nayak, Pr Scientist (Home Science) was the Chief De-Mission & Manager.
Total Five Medals were awarded to the sport contingent of ICAR-CIWA, Bhubaneswar. Among those, Mr Atul Chetan Hemrom was awarded Silver Medal in Javelin throw (men) & Bronze Medal in Discuss throw (men), Er Chaitrali S. Mhatre was awarded Silver Medal in Long jump (women) & Bronze Medal in 200 m Running (women) Mrs Parisima Sen was awarded Silver Medal in Discuss throw (women).
Shri. Pramod Kumar, Hon'ble Minister Tourism, Govt of Bihar was the Chief Guest of the valedictory function. In his speech, he emphasized the importance of sports in day to day life, which will not only enhance the physical, mental and social well being, but also strengthen the team spirit, togetherness and integrity. The session ended with the formal vote of thanks by Dr Kamal Sharma, Organizing Secretary of the programme.
