ICAR-CIWA CELEBRATES INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY ON 8th MARCH, 2017

ICAR- Central Institute for Women in Agriculture (ICAR-CIWA), Bhubaneswar celebrated International Women's Day on 8th March, 2017. On this occasion, Ms. Namrata Chadha, renowned social activist and former member State Commission for Women, Odisha was the Chief Guest. Smt. Sujata Barik, IMC member, Smt. Pratima Mishra, IMC member, Dr. Meena Senapati, and Mrs. Supreety Mishra, both Women Entrepreneurs were the Guests of Honour. The programme was attended by farm women from adopted villages of ICAR-CIWA and Staff of ICAR- CIWA and media personnel. The program began with the invocation of ICAR Song. Dr. Tanuja Somarajan, Nodal Officer, delivered welcome address and briefed about the importance of the occasion. Smt. Sujata Barik shared her views on the occasion about the requirement of positive change in the mindset of farming community for betterment of farm women. Smt. Pratima Mishra encouraged the institute and farm women to keep up the good work. Mrs. Supreety Mishra stressed to follow ones dream in spite of the hindrances of life and thus proved to be a source of inspiration for all the farm women.
Dr. Meena Senapati, shared her experience of becoming a entrepreneur, the hardships she faced and overcame to develop a successful banana tissue culture lab, mushroom cultivation, vermicompost trainings, and other awareness generation farm practices related to women.
Ms. Namrata Chadha, Chief Guest started with congratulating the institute for celebrating International Women's day and wished for the bright future of the institute. She stressed on the importance of the rights of the women and also appreciated the work done by the institute for the farm women. She explained the underlying meaning of the theme "be bold for change" emphasising that if a positive change in the condition of women has to happen, then women should be bold enough to put forth their ideas and views to embrace the opportunities of the life.
Dr. Jatinder Kishtwaria, Director ICAR-CIWA, delivered the presidential talk, summarizing the journey of women through the history, their oppression, uprising and ultimately their fight for equality. She emphasised on the role of women to take up on themselves for transforming their condition and not depending on an outside factor. She also illuminated the way ahead for women's empowerment and inclusion of the male counterpart in the effort for same. She briefed the work done by ICAR-CIWA for drudgery reduction and livelihood enhancement of farm women. An informative question and answers session was conducted between the farm women and the expert guests. Launching of knowledge services through mobile voice messages and Sampad news paper for women farmers by Reliance Foundation was done by the Director, ICAR - CIWA. The elocution competition winners of the theme "Be bold for change " were awarded on the occasion. Dr. Jyoti Nayak, Senior Scientist and Co - nodal Officer proposed the vote of thanks.
