ICAR-CIWA Organizes Short Course on "Integrated Farming System: An Approach towards Livelihood Improvement of Farm Women and Natural Resource Conservation"

The ICAR Sponsored Short Course on "Integrated Farming System: An Approach towards Livelihood Improvement of Farm Women and Natural Resource Conservation" was organised for the agricultural research and development personnel during December 14 - 23, 2016 at ICAR-CIWA, Bhubaneswar. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Jatinder Kishtwaria, Director, ICAR-CIWA , Bhubaneswar. She highlighted the role of IFS in present agricultural scenario as well as role of women in natural resource conservation. Totally twelve participants (7 men and 5 women) from 5 States and 9 Disciplines participated in the short course. Totally 25 Experts delivered talk (Internal 15 and External 10) on different aspects of Integrated Farming Systems and Natural Resource Conservation. During the course, thirty-three (theory- 25 and practical- 8) classes were conducted on various aspects like IFS and natural resource conservation: Importance and concept, gender issues in agriculture especially in IFS and natural resource conservation, role of women in IFS and natural resource conservation, food and nutritional security through IFS, optimizing water productivity through IFS and natural resource conservation, livelihood enhancement of farm families through integration of different farm enterprises and natural resource conservation practices, impact assessment of IFS models through participatory approach, integrated farming systems for different agro-ecosystems and drudgery and ergonomics in different farming systems. The practical exposure visits to ICAR-NRRI (Cuttack), ICAR-CHES (Bhubaneswar) and OUAT (Bhubaneswar) were organised for the trainees. Trainees also visited an adopted village of ICAR-CIWA under IFS project. The valedictory function organised on 23.12.2016 was graced by Dr. Jatinder Kishtwaria, Director, ICAR-CIWA, Bhubaneswar. She urged participants to take the learning's from the course to their respective domains and try to upscale it.
