ICAR sponsored Short Course on ‘Strengthening Gender Perspective in Agricultural Research and Extension’

The ICAR sponsored Short Course on ‘Strengthening Gender Perspective in Agricultural Research and Extension’ was organized during September 1-10, 2015 at ICAR-CIWA, Bhubaneswar. The programme was inaugurated by the Chief Guest Shri Panchanan Kanungo, Former Minister of Finance, Govt. of Odisha in the presence of the Guest of Honour Shri Dillip Kumar Satpathy, Bureau Chief, Business Standard and Dr. S. K. Srivastava, Director, ICAR-CIWA, on September 1, 2015. Twenty two participants comprising 18 women and four(4) men from seven states attended the ICAR sponsored Short Course. A total of 27 theoretical and practical classes were covered in the programme. The Course contents included topics on gender related concepts, gender perspective in agricultural research and extension and how to strengthen the gender component in the programmes, gender disaggregated data- its importance and analysis, gender sensitization, gender analysis tools, technologies for safe food production and livelihood security of farm women, gender issues in livestock and fisheries, occupational risks and ergonomics, extension issues and gender mainstreaming, participatory monitoring and evaluation and a few others etc. Group exercises and field visits constituted an important part of the 10-day long Short Course. Finally, participants made presentation on scope and ways of strengthening gender perspective in their respective areas of research and extension. It was also agreed to make efforts spread the message of gender importance in agricultural research and extension through sensitization of different stakeholders and take up activities to bring visibility of women’s contribution in farm and households. The short course was ended with the valedictory function on September 10, 2015 which was graced by the Chief Guest Dr. C. Satapathy, Director, AMITY, Bhubaneswar and Dr. S. K. Srivastava, Director, ICAR-CIWA. The Course team comprised Dr.H.K.Dash, Dr. J.C.Jeeva, Dr. Ananta sarkar, Dr. Sabita Mishra and Dr. Abha Singh.
