DRWA Celebrates 86th Foundation Day of ICAR

The Directorate of Research on Women in Agriculture (DRWA), Bhubaneswar celebrated 86th Foundation Day of ICAR on 16th July, 2014. The celebration started with the introductory remarks and a presentation on the title, 'ICAR @ 86: Achievements and Challenges', by Dr. Neelam Grewal, Director, DRWA. In her address, the Director narrated the history and growth of ICAR, and its achievements and services to the farming community. She highlighted the challenges of this Directorate, and the milestones to be crossed especially in the areas of 'strengthening women-agriculture and nutrition linkage' and 'mitigating the vulnerability of women and children to climate change'. The coordinated contingency plan of ICAR Institutes and Directorates located in Bhubaneswar to address the emerging climate change scenario was also discussed. On this occasion, Dr. Anil Kumar, Principal Scientist delivered a lecture on 'Focusing gender and livestock to address climate change in Odisha'. In his lecture, he highlighted the vulnerable districts in Odisha and the scope of promoting livestock rearing as a livelihood option in such areas.
Earlier, Dr. Ananta Sarkar, Senior Scientist welcomed the participants. Dr. Suman Agarwal, Principal Scientist proposed a vote of thanks. All the Scientific, Technical and Administrative staff of the Directorate participated in the programme.The profile management system of the Directorate was inaugurated by the Director and the staff profiles are made available on the Directorate website.
