LOW COST WEANING MIX (INFANT FOOD)

Low cost weaning mix is nutritionally rich baby food developed using locally available food materials from all the food groups i.e. cereals, pulses, oilseeds and Vitamin A rich sweet potato. This weaning mix is nutritionally rich, easy to prepare, thus providing a healthy substitute to the costly weaning mixes available in the market.

How it is women friendly?

  • Low cost weaning mix technology is very useful for farm women of rural areas.
  • If this technology can be disseminated in to the rural area on large scale it will be helpful to the rural farm women to feed their children a nutritionally balanced feed.
  • It can be taken as small scale enterprises for rural women in group approach for economic security.

Performance:

    It is very useful up to the infants of one year.

Locale of dissemination/ application:

Thirteen training cum demonstration programs were conducted in six villages of Khurda and Puri district involving 219 mothers/farm women to demonstrate the making procedure of low cost weaning mix

Outcomes/impact/benefits:

    A healthy substitute to the costly weaning mixes.

Limitations if any

    Sweet potato processing is time taking and storage is a problem.
